大瀬の神池＆大瀬のビャクシン

大瀬の神池と御神木ビャクシンを観るためには出札所で100円を支払い入っていきます。

入ってすぐのところには、「びゃくしん古木展示館」があります。


びゃくしん古木展示館の中にはもちろんびゃくしんが・・・




森林浴をしながらさらに先へ！


林の中から神池が見えてきました。


コイのエサが売っていましたが、


エサがなくても足音だけで鯉達がよってきます。
鯉がちょっと鮮やかでないのが残念です。


中には他の鯉の1.5倍はあると思われる巨大鯉がいました。


こいつは神池の主？



さらに先へ進むと大瀬崎灯台が見えてきます。


そして、御神木びゃくしんです。


大瀬崎のビャクシン樹林
ビャクシンはヒノキ科の植物で、生垣に用いられるカイズカブキと同種です。漢字では柏槇と書きます。常緑の高木で本州、四国、九州、朝鮮半島及び中国大陸にかけて分付しています。
大瀬崎のビャクシン樹林は、現在百三十本あまりが自生し、群落を形成しています。直径一メートルをこえる巨木、樹齢千年以上といわれる老樹も多いことで知られ、国の天然記念物に指定されています。
ビャクシンの開花期は四月頃ですが、毬果が成熟するのは翌年の秋から冬にかけてです。また、その種子が発芽するには二年かかると言われています。しかもビャクシンは耐陰性が弱く、成長するのに強い陽光が必要です。そのため若木のほとんどは二～三年で消滅すると考えられ、後継樹がなかなか育たないものです。
この貴重な文化財である大瀬崎のビャクシン樹林を私たちの子孫に伝えるため、大切に守りましょう。
